Frequently Asked Questions

The things guests ask most — answered straight.

Lodging

Are pets allowed?
Yes — every cabin at Gwin's is pet-friendly with a small nightly pet fee. Please keep dogs leashed on the property and never leave pets unattended in cabins.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is 4 PM, check-out is 11 AM. Early arrivals are welcome to park, eat and explore while we finish your cabin.
Do cabins have kitchens?
It varies — chalets have full kitchens, cottages have kitchenettes, and historic log cabins range from mini fridges to coffee-maker-only. Every cabin page lists exact kitchen details.
What is a dry cabin?
A dry cabin has no running water. Guests use the shared bathhouse nearby. It's the classic budget Alaska option — warm, clean and simple.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi is available around the roadhouse. Cabin coverage is limited — we like to think of it as a feature.

Getting Here

How far is Gwin's from Anchorage?
About 100 miles / 1 hour 45 minutes south on the Seward and Sterling Highways — one of the most scenic drives in America.
How close are the rivers?
The Kenai River flows right through Cooper Landing, and the Russian River confluence is about 2 miles (5 minutes) from our door.
Do I need a car?
Yes — there's no public transit in Cooper Landing. Rental cars from Anchorage are the standard approach.

Restaurant & Store

Do I need a dinner reservation?
Walk-ins are welcome. For groups of 8+ or event dining, call ahead and we'll set you up.
Can I get food to go?
Yes — the full menu is available to go, and we can pack riverside lunches for fishing and hiking days.
What does the store carry?
Tackle and flies, fishing licenses, liquor and Alaska beers, ice, firewood, snacks, bug spray and the essentials you forgot to pack.

Fishing & Activities

When is the best fishing?
June through August for salmon, May and September for big rainbow trout. See our fishing season guide for the month-by-month picture.
Do you help plan non-fishing days?
Every day. Trip planning is part of staying here — hiking, kayaking, rafting, wildlife and day trips to Seward or Homer. Start with our trip planner or just ask at the desk.
